Star Olympian Swimmer Michael Phelps in a released statement, acknowledged that the photo showing him smoking marijuana from a pot bong pipe is real.

Mike Phelps said in the statement, “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again”.

The caught on film photo published in a British newspaper, showed Phelps smoking from a water pipe, normally used for smoking marijuana, called a marijuana pipe, or pot bong.

The British newspaper, News of the World, said the picture was taken at a house party while Michael Phelps was visiting the University of South Carolina.

After all his winning  accomplishments in life and the olympic swimming-pool, let us hope that this public marijuana pot use embarassing episode is an eye-opener for Michael Phelps.

Now that his  Role-Model image is now tarnished, it is probably only temporary.  Let us hope this Michael Phelps pot smoking revelation, will cause him to expand his usually excellent Community Service.

I can see  Mike Phelps now able to reach so many people at risk of falling into Alcohol Abuse,  Marijuana Pot abuse, Crystal Meth abuse, or even worse, Cocaine Addiction, or Heroin Addiction.

As frequently happens with celebrities, Michael Phelps is probably headed for drug rehab, mainly to rehabilitate his image.  It’s always possible, but chances are that Phelps will never have to deal with hardcore drug addiction.

The real question is – Are you willing to take that chance Michael Phelps?
